Iyana McEachern

Research Specialist

I earned my B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Neuroscience from Drexel University in 2026. My scientific journey has taken me from working with CAR-T cell therapies and studying ovarian cancer to researching reproductive biotechnology in Crete and exploring lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery. Each experience has given me a new perspective on how interconnected biology can be and helped shape the scientist I hope to become.
Along the way, I discovered that I am most excited by science that bridges disciplines and asks how understanding biology at its fundamental levels can open the door to something bigger. Now, I am ready to turn that breadth into depth. I joined the Tolbert Lab to explore RNA and molecular biology, challenge myself with new scientific questions, and begin finding the questions fascinating enough to spend a career pursuing.
Outside the lab, I love traveling and experiencing new cultures, caring for my ever-growing collection of plants, and giving back through community service. I am happiest when I am learning, connecting, and discovering something new.

What I Bring to the Lab:

  • Curiosity: I ask a LOT of questions and love understanding the “why” behind the science
  • Growth: I embrace being challenged, learning new things, and becoming a better scientist along the way
  • Community: I am passionate about making science accessible and engaging for communities historically underrepresented in STEM
  • Personality: I bring conversation, laughter, and probably a few too many plant pictures
